Justice system failed again.

In todays paper there is an article about Gerald Klein, a convicted stalker. He has been after Cathy Kaip for 30+ years and is getting out of jail after serving a full 3 year sentence. The crown wants him to sign a peace bond saying he will stay away from Cathy and her family, but this deluded man won't sign. He somehow thinks he is the victim here, and that Cathy is at fault because she refused to marry him. They met at a wedding 30 years ago, and from that meeting on, he has been after her. I don't think the crown can make him sign. The nature of our laws is that he served his full sentence, the court has no hold on him even though he never took any treatment while in lockup and still considers himself the victim in this case. The guy is obviously insane and should be locked up forever or until such a time as he can understand that he is wrong. Just because he has stalked this woman for 30 years and never physically hurt her does not mean that he won't. I suppose that is what they are waiting for. It just really bugs me that we are so careful not to step on criminals "rights" in this country that the victim has to go through what this woman has already suffered. And now it will start again.

*shakes head* That's awful. Any idiot can realize that that guy is a nutjob!! Any stalker that thinks he's the victim because someone won't marry him is seriously deluded. Buddy, she doesn't HAVE to marry you!! It's her freakin' choice, and I definitely can see why she wouldn't want to. Poor woman. I only hope that nothing happens to her.

I saw a story on The National or something like that about this case... I just don't get it. He messes with her life for thirty years and all he gets is three. Even if he never hurts her (which I think is a long shot) he should get more time than that. He messed with her life. She's been tormented by this man for a long time, that should be enough to put him behind bars until he is well enough to leave her alone.

I can't even imagine what it would be like to be harassed for thrity years just because I went to a wedding once. He has changed what her life would have been without him and if I were the judge I would have thrown him in jail until a psychologist said he was no longer a threat to her.

That is a terrible story. I obviously live a sheltered life as I haven't heard a thing about this case. That is sad though and should she take matters into her own hands, she would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. That is the sad thing. Our injustice system is really something isn't it??

I have long since come to believe that calling our system a "justice" system is a misnomer. We should be calling it a "legal" system, which is what it has become. The word "justice" means the following; 1)the quality of being just; righteousness, equitableness, or moral rightness.
2)the administering of deserved punishment or reward.

What this man has done and will continue to do to this woman deserved an equitable punishment or reward. He should have been put away for 30 years not 3. I am ashamed of what this country calls justice.

Our justice system is not here for the victim, it is here for the accused, no matter what they have done. This guy deserved to be put away, for the exact amount of time, he had been harrasing her... 30 years!!
Why let this guy out, if he still feels he is the victim, and was not willing to get any help while he was incarcerated.

If I was this woman, I would make sure I carried some sort of weapon on me at all times.

Dad told me a story once about about a man in their area that recieved justice for his deeds. He had a drinking problem and when he was drunk he would come home and beat up his wife. This went on for a period of time until one day some of the other men in the area went to this woman and told her that the next time he came home drunk she was supposed to let them know and then they would teach this man a lesson or two. Well it didn't take long until the next binge. The man came home drunk and proceeded to abuse his wif and then passed out. The lady called the men, they came over to her house and hauled her husband outside. They put a gunny sack over his head and secured the bottm tightly tying his hands to his side. They then strapped him over a 45 gallon drum and proceeded to gaive him the licken of his life with a piece of belt that someone had brought. When they were done they made it clear to this man that if his behavior did not change the next time would be much worse. That man quit drinking that very night.
It's too bad that this can't happen today in our society. It would cure alot of bad behavior.
